I changed how I prepared food for my family in 2011 after my father became ill and began a holistic treatment, which included an organic, vegan diet. I discovered that diet plays such an important role in healing and preventing diseases. I began experimenting with and changing the recipes I had used for years, like replacing chicken broth with veggie broth, and using coconut oil instead of corn oil.

One Christmas, after making vegan tamales, a few family members commented on how delicious the tamales were. They couldn’t believe how tasty they were. These comments triggered the idea of creating healthy, organic Mexican food products that taste truly authentic, like the Mexican dishes my mom used to prepare.

Qué Mami (“What a Mommy”) was a term I used to describe my mother, Elvira, when I was young. She earned this term of endearment for the extraordinary job she did as a mother. My mom always gave me the best she had to offer: herself and her time.

I learned many valuable lessons from my mother. One of these lessons was the ability to cook authentic Mexican dishes. Mami always cooked from scratch, and although many of her dishes were extremely labor-intensive, she enjoyed every minute of making them. She learned to make mole and other traditional Mexican dishes from her grandmother, who was originally from Jalisco, Mexico. My Mami’s passion was food, and even though she is no longer with us, Qué Mami Organics keeps her memory alive by using her recipes.

You can buy our sauces and tamales on this site, at local farmers markets, and select natural foods stores. We plan to expand our line as we naturally grow the business.
